Discharge data (surface water) US Geological Service:
The U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) National Water Information System (NWIS) is a comprehensive and distributed application that supports the acquisition, processing, and long-term storage of water data.
Nationally, USGS surface-water data include more than 850,000 station years of time-series data that describe stream levels, streamflow (discharge), reservoir and lake levels, surface-water quality, and rainfall. The data are collected by automatic recorders and manual field measurements at installations across the nation. Data are collected by field personnel or relayed through telephones or satellites to offices where it is stored and processed.
Current data typically are recorded at 15- to 60-minute intervals, stored onsite, and then transmitted to USGS offices every 1 to 4 hours, depending on the data relay technique used. Recording and transmission times may be more frequent during critical events.
USGS discharge data presented on the IPHEX website are observational data for validating the results from H4SE Hydrologic and Forecast models. We have included 262 points with discharge data at 15 minute resolution with a generalised common record period from 10/01/2007 till the current time. Detailed information about these data is found in the attached shapefile. The shapefile table also provides a link at every discharge point to the USGS service.
